1. I finally get to put a face to the name of the clients I haven't met yet!
2. We get the chance to know each other in a relaxed, slower pace.
3. I figure out your "quirks and preferences".
4. I get the chance to gauge if you come with ideas or let me pose you.
5. I am with you on your wedding day, please make sure I'm not a psycho! :)
6. You aren't in wedding garb. It's refreshing to have a casual set too.
7. I not only shoot you before your wedding, but I have processed them too. I know how to work with your bodies. What worked, what didn't.
8. You can give me feedback.
9. We can add more of your personality into this session.
10. You can use the images for wedding stuff, like a sign in book!

The thing that I absolutely love about engagement sessions is the chance to get to work with the bride and groom BEFORE their big day.

I get to see how you react together, how you touch, and how you play. All of these things help me make better wedding images for you!

There is an opportunity to shoot in a location that means a lot to both of you, but is maybe out of the way on your wedding day. My husband and I had our first real date playing putt-putt… something like that. You both love to read, let's head to the library or bookstore and grab a coffee.

Engagement sessions are also a great way to try out a potential wedding photographer. If you haven't booked one yet, like their style and want to try it out- this is the best way!

To me, these sessions are priceless.

Presenting Mr. and Mrs. Farnsel

Surrounded by family and friends, Ed and Lauren declared their love for each other in the Holy Trinity Catholic church in Assumption, Ohio on Saturday, May 18.

Ed, a farmer, took us all back to his family farms and greenhouse to get a few extra shots after some group photos at Secor Metro Park.

I truly love when a little bit of the couple's personality can really show through in the images, capturing who they are.

For additional images from this event, you may go to my website, Facebook, or their online gallery.

I'll let you in on a little secret...

I am one of those lucky few that can say "I love my job" and really mean it. You mean, I can make art all day and get paid for it?

I will say this though, there is a HUGE misconception on how I spend my time...

note: see chart left for examples.

So, to prove that a ton of work goes into making those images GORGEOUS, I have compiled some before and after shots!

The best examples I have come from newborn sessions. Their skin is so new and sensitive, that it is often red, flaky, or inflicted with "baby acne".

Not every extensive edit is due to breakouts and dry skin. Often in posing, I require mom to make sure their little ones do not topple over...

Lastly, I spend a lot of time editing because I want you to look your best, especially on your big day....

Hello World! It's me, Colleen.

I say these words to myself every morning. I can't explain why, but I really do. Every morning. I wake up, I let the chihuahuas out, and I proclaim to whomever I believe is listening "Hello World! It's me, Colleen."

Yes, I am aware it is weird.

So here it is… my blogging debut- which for a business owner and a self proclaimed social media addict, is a bit crazy it took this long. I read somewhere that 1 out of every 7 people in the world is on Facebook.... but I see that figure and think, 6 out of 7 can’t even see my page.

For those that may not know me, I am Colleen… a wedding and portrait photographer in Milan, MI. I grew up in the country catching tadpoles and having pine cone wars. I blossomed into an artist that appreciates the beauty around us which often goes unnoticed (cheesy, but true). I often refer to my business as "my baby" and it is probably closest to a toddler. [coll.neu] photography is still growing and developing, learning new and better ways to do things every day.

I look forward to making this a platform to show you my latest work, and to pepper in some more of me and my other interests (yes, I have a couple other interests). I often try to keep business and personal separate... but why? I refuse to be like every other photographer when there is the option to be ME.

My name is Colleen and I am the artsy brains behind this operation. I spend my free time painting and reading when I am completely caught up on edits, which is almost never.
